Anna Wood, a Sydney, Australia schoolgirl, died at the age of 15 on October 24, 1995 after taking half of an ecstasy tablet at a dance party the previous night. The direct cause of death was a cerebral oedema, caused by water intoxication and resultant hyponatremia. Her death, widely reported in the media, sparked off a moral panic regarding drugs and their perceived role in rave and dance party culture. The event had political implications on drug policy, particularly in her home state of New South Wales. Media coverage frequently played on her appearance as an average, middle-class, fresh-faced "good" girl to convey the message that similar tragedies could befall any youngster in Middle Australia. Her death is also notable in that it preceded by mere weeks that of the better-known British teenager Leah Betts, the circumstances and resultant media coverage of which were eerily similar.

What they won't tell us, what they refuse to tell us, is how we can do the drug safely, or at least, less dangerously.

It's all very complicated

The media has characterised Dutroux as a pedophile. The four psychiatrists and a psychologist who have evaluated Dutroux have said that he is, rather, a psychopath:

"The age of the victims did not seem to arouse in him any given effect or to play a particular role, beyond allowing him to kidnap them, to manipulate them, to confine them."

Pure Evil.

Cognitive relativism (also called epistemic or epistemological relativism) is a philosophy that claims the truth or falsity of a statement is relative to a social group.

The vast majority of human advances were not supported by the vast majority of the general public before (in some cases even during) the time their utility was undeniable.

We May Never Know the Truth

According to VH1, after winning several libel suits, Condit currently lives in Arizona with his wife and children, and is rumored to own a Baskin Robbins store.

How is that not a game?

The choking game, also known by large number of other names, is not technically a game but a schoolyard activity involving the inducement of unconsciousness or near unconsciousness by restriction of the supply of oxygen to the brain.

PETA is a Terrorist Organization

PETA regularly asks towns and cities whose names in its view are suggestive of animal exploitation to change their names. In April 2003, they offered free veggie burgers to the city of Hamburg, New York, in exchange for changing its name. PETA also campaigned in 1996 to have the town of Fishkill, New York, change its name, claiming the name suggests cruelty to fish. (The root "kill", found in many New York town names, is Dutch for "creek".)

I certainly hope my little hamlet of dogtortureville will be left out of the craziness.

What's Up Gang?

According to a June 2, 1999 article in The Virginian-Pilot,[13] Taylor had extensive business dealings with televangelist Pat Robertson. According to the article, Taylor gave Robertson (who also had business dealings with Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire) the rights to mine for diamonds in Liberia's mineral-rich countryside. According to two airplane pilots who reported this incident to the state of Virginia for investigation in 1994, Robertson used his Operation Blessing planes to haul diamond-mining equipment to Robertson's mines in Liberia, despite the fact that Robertson was telling his 700 Club viewers that the planes were sending relief supplies to the victims of the genocide in Rwanda. The subsequent investigation by the state of Virginia concluded that Robertson diverted his ministry's donations to the Liberian diamond-mining operation, but Attorney General of Virginia Mark Earley blocked any potential prosecution against Robertson.

The alleged outcry was enough to move the Holy See to comment, in an official statement on April 21, 2000:

The Vatican has announced that the trading-card and computer-game versions of Pokémon are “full of inventive imagination,” have no “harmful moral side effects” and celebrate “ties of intense friendship.” Whether that extends to the TV show, His Holiness didn’t say. The New York Post, quoting a Thursday story in The Times of London, says The Vatican made its announcement on its satellite TV station, Sat2000, run by the Italian Bishops’ Conference.-from the New York Times

...A fatwa, or religious edict, issued by a Saudi sheik urges all Muslims to beware of the game, noting that most of the cards bear "six-pointed stars, a symbol of international Zionism and the state of Israel" [11]. This refers to the Colorless energy symbol, which has nothing to do with Judaism.

In Hitchens' interpretation, Mother Teresa's own words on poverty proved that "her intention was not to help people." He quoted Mother Teresa's words at a 1981 press conference in which she was asked: "Do you teach the poor to endure their lot?" She replied: "I think it is very beautiful for the poor to accept their lot, to share it with the passion of Christ. I think the world is being much helped by the suffering of the poor people."

There is nothing noble about poverty. Poverty may expose the nobility of persons enduring it, but being lifted out of disease and impovershment would not diminish them any.

Some environmental groups have called for a boycott of the 2008 Summer Olympics after it was reported that the Chinese government placed an order, for $1 billion USD, on 800,000 cubic meters of Merbau hardwood from the endangered rainforests of Indonesia's Papua province to be used in the construction of the games. Rainforest activist groups claim that this is against Olympic ideals of respecting universal moral principles.

What? What? Have the olympics ever stood for universal moral principles? I think the '36 Munich Games may have blown the image of the olympics respecting universal moral priniciples. Now, I'm not saying I don't like the Olympics. And I'm not saying I don't like Hitler. I'm just saying that when one is being hosted by the other, it's probably a good idea to erase the phrase "universal moral principles" from the 'things that the Olympics stand for' list.

Race War is More Glorious Than Genocide

A postcard showing the burned body of Jesse Washington, Waco, Texas, 1916. Washington was a 17-year-old retarded farmhand who had confessed to raping and killing a white woman. He was castrated, mutilated, and burned alive by a cheering mob that included the mayor and the chief of police. An observer wrote that "Washington was beaten with shovels and bricks. . .[he] was castrated, and his ears were cut off. A tree supported the iron chain that lifted him above the fire. . Wailing, the boy attempted to climb up the skillet hot chain. For this, the men cut off his fingers." This image is from a postcard, which said on the back, "This is the barbeque we had last night. My picture is to the left with a cross over it. Your son, Joe."

Black resistance against lynching carried horrible risks. In 1921 in Tulsa, a group of black citizens attempted to stop a lynch mob from taking a 19-year old black man and assault suspect, Dick Rowland, out of jail. There was a scuffle between a white man and an armed black veteran, and the white man was killed. Whites retaliated by burning 1,256 homes and as many as 200 businesses in the segregated black Greenwood district, and leaving a confirmed 39 dead (26 black, 13 white). Recent investigations suggest the number of black deaths could be much higher. According to some reports, white rioters were shooting at black refugees from airplanes and dropping explosives on them. Dick Rowland was not lynched and was later exonerated.

On Greenwood, rumors began to fly, in particular, a false report that whites were storming the courthouse. Shortly after 10:00 p.m., a second, larger group of approximately seventy-five armed black men decided to make a second visit to the courthouse. Again, they offered their support to the sheriff to help protect Dick Rowland. Once again, their offer was declined.

Imagine the reaction of a police chief today if 75 armed men of any race came to protect a member of thier community against a mob numbering thousands.

Point of View

The cereal itself is a mixture of mashed maize (corn) and syrup. Pieces are shaped to resemble treasure chests, although some would argue that their shape more closely resembles bed pillows.

Cap'n Crunch is well-known to cause minor lacerations to the roof of the mouth and gums. This is likely due to the hardness of the cereal and the sharp edges formed when it is crushed during chewing. After eating Cap'n Crunch, one tends to notice a roughness or redness of the hard palate, even bleeding, which some have called "Cap'n Crunch Mouth".

Despite its famous tagline, Cap'n Crunch actually becomes soggy rather quickly in milk when compared to other breakfast cereals.[citation needed]

As the case of Ronald Reagan amply demonstrates, in this age of mass-media, people do not want and cannot tolerate being ruled by humans. They want to be ruled by myths. Mythological rulers are more appealing, more effective, and ultimately more cost effective for all. They transcend the straightjackets of 'objectivity', 'consistency', 'honesty', and 'ethics' that hampered previous non-constructed leaders. Actual politics is quite boring and will not satisfy the current generations of television and internet-saturated entertainment consumers. Expecting these consumers to have any working knowledge of history (or even the present) that will allow them to differentiate 'fact' from 'fantasy' is far too much to ask. Anything with a semantic content more sophisticated than People Magazine is difficult and disturbing for the average American.

By 1980 the transfer to a completely fantasy-based system of political economy was complete when Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United States. The purposely fantastical and delusional actions of the government caused the fall of the Soviet Union when the Russian government realized they could not compete with the sheer entertainment power of the United States. The United States' systematic program of voluntary, incentive-based stupidification was far more successful than the Soviet Union's program of forced, involuntary stupidification.

Awkward but Pretty

The following day, those remaining at the crash site heard on their radio that Parrado and Canessa had been successful in finding help. They tidied themselves up as best they could, covered the remains of the corpses that were no longer intact, and awaited their rescuers.
