      Blocked
As per the discussion on the Administrators Noticeboard, I'm blocking this account indefinitely because of the inappropriate username and because of your hosting of radically inappropriate comments on your userpage. I regret doing this because you have contributed some useful things to the encyclopedia, but the username and userpage content cannot remain. I have invited broader review of this decision on the noticeboard, and if a better way to resolve these two issues is found, then the decision may be changed. --Improv 21:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
Step One of Block Appeal...
This seems to be the only way for me to contact you, so here goes. I felt there was no real concensus for any disciplinary action to be taken against me, and that an indefinite block is heavy handed and uneccessary. Furthermore, I had already contexualized my 'objectionable' comment in my userspace when I was blocked. I'd also like to clarify the meaning of my name as it relates to the Iron Guard.
Groups change over time. If one supported the bolsheviks in 1905, that doesn't mean one stood for the murder of 30-50 million people, collectivization, and other horrors. It means one supported the Bolsheviks 1905 views.
The Iron Guard in its early stages was a nationalistic group dedicated to improving the infrastructure of the country and resolving class antagonisms. They were also zealous anti-semites, but as I have stated clearly, I am not an anti-semite. I am capable of selectively admiring traits of a group without accepting their views and actions wholesale. I don't recognize the Iron Guard as having really existed after the original leadership was murdered by King Carol, just as I don't recognize the bolsheviks as having really existed after stalin took absolute power. Even though israel has engaged in several well documented massacres, kidnappings, and assassinations, I don't think the entire israeli state and people can be condemned.
The US government commited a systematic cultural and physical annhilation of the native americans, yet there are many, many, many names that reference or allude to the United States, which has a much less convoluted and clear line of continuity.
Economists from the university of chicago worked with pinochet, who killed 50,000 people, yet conjuring up the university of chicago in a username is presumably allowed.
Given that nearly every user is in violation of the userprofile rules, (you for example, have a link to your blog and express a loathing of objectivism, both of which are forbidden by policy.) I did not anticipate this degree of punishment, especially on such a selectively enforced policy.
My response to your request could have been more diplomatic, and I apologize for being curt.
My editing record is solid, if undistinguished, and I want this to be resolved as quickly as possible so I can resume improving wikipedia. Further apologies for all spelling errors.
Suggestions:
I would consent to a change of my name to something less inflammatory, if it is found to be neccessary.
I would asked that my revised statement (which I have some reason to believe you did not read) concerning the university of chicago be reviewed, and if it is still found to be unacceptable, I will strike it from my profile.
