What a stupid name for a terrifying tactic

Salami tactics, also known as the salami-slice strategy, is a gradual process of threats and alliances as a means of overcoming opposition. With it, an aggressor can influence and eventually dominate a (typically political) landscape, slice by slice. In most cases it includes creation of several factions within the opposing political party and then dismantling it from the inside, without causing the sliced side to protest.

The term was first used to describe the actions of the Communist Party in Hungary, led by the ultra-Stalinist Mátyás Rákosi, who also coined the term. Similar tactics were also used in the majority of the Communist-dominated states of the era, including Poland.
