Cowards!

On April 24, 2005, a pre-recorded comedy routine broadcast during The Randi Rhodes Show sparked a minor controversy. The United States Secret Service reviewed the broadcast and did not pursue further investigation or action. Rhodes broadcasted that day from a Florida studio instead of her home studio in New York City.

The broadcast's opening skit was a monologue featuring an old man, saying: "We saw America through the Great Depression and hot and cold wars. Our muscles boosted this nations' economic superiority to dizzying heights. And then our time came to enjoy just a little of the comfort and security we brought to the U.S. of A. So we joined with others of our era to protect what's rightfully ours. But now we've learned the AARP isn't enough. Our pensions have been stolen our health benefits cut and those of us with homes too often have to choose between heat and food. A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [Sound effect of 3 gunshots.] The AAARP: the American Association of Armed Retired People. Just try it, you little bastard. [Sound effect of gun being cocked.]"

The implication, according to Matt Drudge, is that the spoiled child is George W. Bush. Randi Rhodes apologized for that skit on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, saying: "It was a bit. It was bad. I apologize a thousand times." She claimed that neither she nor her producer, both of who were on the road that week, were involved in writing or producing the bit, nor had they reviewed the bit prior to its broadcast. However, she said that since the segment aired on her show, she accepted full responsibility for any wrongdoing and promised full cooperation with any subsequent investigation.

Jon Sinton, Air America's president of programming said "We are not under investigation from the Secret Service. We regret that a produced comedy bit that was in bad taste slipped through our normal vetting process. We do acknowledge that it was an internal error and internal discipline will be enforced."

If you want to get anywhere, you have to be like these chaps...

Der Stürmer ("The Attacker") was a weekly Nazi newspaper published by Julius Streicher from 1923 to the end of World War II in 1945, with a brief suspension in circulation during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It was a significant part of the Nazi propaganda machinery and was vehemently anti-Semitic. Unlike the Völkischer Beobachter, the official party paper which gave itself an outwardly serious appearance, the tabloid-style Der Stürmer often ran obscene materials such as pornography, ran anti-Catholic and anti-"reactionary" material, mixed with extremely anti-Semitic caricatures and open, undisguised hate propaganda like accusations of blood libel.

Der Stürmer was most notorious for its anti-Semitic cartoons, most of which portrayed Jews as ugly characters with exaggerated facial features and misshapen bodies. Philipp Rupprecht, known as Fips, was one of the most well-known anti-Semitic cartoonists making virulent attacks on "Jewish capitalism" and "Jewish Communism".

At the bottom of the title page there was always the motto "Die Juden sind unser Unglück!" ("The Jews are our misfortune!"); below its nameplate was the motto "Deutsches Wochenblatt zum Kampfe um die Wahrheit" ("Germany's Weekly Newspaper for the Fight for Truth.)"

I am convinced that the format is more important than the message. Even though air america and the conservative talk shows both use the radio medium, they use wildly different formats. The liberals are all gathered together like a wagon train's last defense against an indian attack. They labeled themselves as "liberal". If one listens closely to the conservative hosts, one realizes they never even call themselves republicans. They create a personna where they claim to go after all issues and all sides equally, then spout reactionary "plain-sense" falsehoods that contain a tiny grain of truth in them. They don't claim to be pushing an agenda. They claim to be just regular people calling it like they see it. Because they are not officially attached to any party, they may call for the murder of political opponents, lie blatantly, never apologize and generally hold ridiculously incorrect views on reality. Through it all, they take callers. Callers are of two varieties: a) stupid people who agree with them. b) stupid people who do not agree with them. This is not an accident. All of the calls are pre-screened and only those that mesh perfectly with the show are permitted, but much like "democracy" it gives the illusion of participation.

The liberals are timid. They apologize for jokes that the mad dogs of fanatical fascism declare to be in bad taste, while the conservatives daily explore the idea of treason trials and invading whatever country is the evil flavor of the week. And so, they are weak and disconnected from the general public. They can survive only in artificial climates, such as college towns and parts of new england. They must study Der Sturmer. It is far enough away from them that they can study the technique without becoming hopelessly entangled in contemporary issues. They must attack, attack, attack. They must hammer away at thier opponents on every level, launching salvo after salvo of accusations. And not 'liberal-style' accusations. "He doesn't believe in ozone depletion." "He's not culturall sensitive" and the rest are not enough to beach these whales of the reaction. attack anywhere and everywhere at all times, but for god's sake, drag them down with you. There's no sense in them floating and you sinking. For the good of humanity, drown together.
