Childlike Wonderment.

The Pax Mongolica or "Mongol Peace" is a phrase coined by Western scholars to describe the alleged stabilising effects of the conquest of the Mongol Empire on the social, cultural and economic life of the inhabitants of the vast Eurasian territory they conquered in the 13th and 14th centuries.

A saying existed that a naked maiden could ride the length of the Empire without fear of molestation, so thoroughly had the Mongols intimidated the peoples under their control.

The conquests of Genghis Khan effectively connected the Eastern world with the Western world for the first time, ruling a territory from Southeast Asia to Central Europe. The Silk Road, connecting trade centers across Asia and Europe, came under the sole rule of the Mongol Empire. The term Pax Mongolica is used to describe the eased communication and commerce the unified administration helped to create.

Embarassing, quite simply. We of the west have been so scarred by the roman empire that our minds will likely never recover. It makes sense to Call Pax Romana that because it's latin, and they spoke latin. Meanwhile, the mongolians spoke mongolic languages. For us, rome is the center of the world, and something new... the center of history. Everything before and after is compared and analyzed in relation to the romans. And it is not a true analysis. It is glorification and myth, something that began after the fall of rome and continues on into this present day. We can't get our heads past it. Statemen of all breeds walk through roman halls and past roman columns. Our scientists and doctors use latin words, as if to give them credit for all that we have become. That may be fine for us, for our culture, but to claim it as a universal? Pax Mongolica? That's certainly not proper mongol, and I bet it's not even proper latin.

Fuck all ya'll Kaffers

The Consistency in Compassion Campaign (CCC), a project of the Northwest Animal Rights Network of Seattle, Washington, argues that "the Holocaust stands for much more than the one event. It represents a place and time when supremacist thinking was so embedded in a culture that they were blind or apathetic to the evil that existed in their everyday world. This kind of thinking is not exclusive to just that time and place. The great blind spot of our country and Western Civilization for that matter is the mistreatment and disregard for non-human animals in nearly every capacity." [3]

Why always the slamming on the westerners? Lamb and chicken are the most popular dishes in india and pakistan, and I've got news for you. They don't play tofu, and none of that shit is free range.

Der Jude ist Schwein?

Some writers and animal rights groups have drawn a comparison between the treatment of animals and the Holocaust. [1] The comparison is regarded as controversial, and has been criticized by organizations that campaign against anti-Semitism, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. [2] The ADL has written that the increasing use of Holocaust imagery by animal rights activists is a "disturbing development." [3]

Roberta Kalechofksy of Jews for Animal Rights argues that, although there is "connective tissue" between animal suffering and the Holocaust, they "fall into different historical frameworks, and comparison between them aborts the ... force of anti-Semitism. [4]

I stand with the reactionary ADL on this one. What's next? Grass blade holocaust? Things must die so that we may live. What we owe them is to kill without malice. Humanity would be much better served making comparisons to ongoing genocide in rawanda and sudan instead of this nonsense with the baby ducks and the puppies.

Never again will the jewish people be systematically exterminated by the german government. Genocide, however, will continue unabated and without the knowledge or concern of most of the world.

One humorous example of chutzpah is often given as follows: "A boy is on trial for murdering his parents, and he begs of the judge leniency because he is an orphan."

How can you hate a culture that gave us that?
Some conservatives object to safe sex programs because they believe that providing education about condom use and other protective measures promotes non-procreative and promiscuous sex. As an alternative, they endorse abstinence before marriage and monogamy during marriage, arguing that this is the only reliable way to stop STIs.

The issue of seat belt legislation has been a source of some controversy. Hospital based studies of car accident victims, experiments using both crash test dummies and actual human cadavers have indicated that wearing seat belts should provide a reduced risk of death and injury in many types of car crash. This has led many countries to adopt mandatory seat belt wearing laws. It is generally accepted that, in comparing like-for-like accidents, a vehicle occupant wearing a properly fitted seat belt has a significantly lower chance of death or serious injury.

Some conservatives object to seat-belt programs because they believe that providing education about seat-belt use and other protective measures promotes non-productive and unsafe driving.

My stomach churns at the thought of sex. I become extremely emotional and angry at the thought of people enjoying themselves somewhere. Even if there were drugs with no side effects and all STD's were cured, I would be opposed to them all, because the moment you start enjoying life and stop fearing the wrath of a jealous and irrational god, your soul is doomed.

Crypto-Fascism

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

That is the idea that rocketed fascism and communism past similar organizations promoting a less emotional, more individualistic idea.

They are both dualisms of extreme emotion and cold rationality. They demand theories and mathematical proofs as much as they demand total happiness and belief.

Wacky!

The Tsar Tank, , also known as the Netopyr' (Нетопырь, Pipistrellus bat) or Lebedenko Tank, was an unusual Russian armored vehicle developed in 19141915. The project was scrapped after initial tests deemed the vehicle to be underpowered and vulnerable to artillery fire.

The tank was different from modern tanks in that it didn't use caterpillar tracks—rather, it used a tricycle design. The two front spoked wheels were nearly 9 metres (27 feet) in diameter; the back one was a smaller, only 1.5 metres (5 feet) high, triple wheel, to ensure maneuvrability. The upper cannon turret reached nearly 8 metres high. The hull was 12 metres wide with two more cannon in the sponsons. Additional weapons were also planned under the belly.

Displays of National Idiocy and Bluster.

Tsar Bomba (Russian: Царь-бомба, literally "Emperor-bomb") is the Western name for the largest, most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated. Developed by the Soviet Union, the ~50 megaton bomb was codenamed Ivan (Russian: Иван) by its developers.

The bomb was tested on October 30, 1961 in Novaya Zemlya, an island in the Arctic Sea. The device was scaled down from its original design of 100 megatons to minimize nuclear fallout.

The term "Tsar Bomba" harkens to the historical Russian practice of building impractically large things as shows of power or prowess, e.g., a massive bell (Tsar Kolokol), the world's largest cannon (Tsar Pushka), and the unwieldy Tsar Tank. Although the bomb was so named such by Western sources (the strictly anti-monarchist Soviet Union would not have named this symbol of national pride in honor of its past rulers), the name is now widely used in Russia.

Cheers mate! We can kill 16 million civilians BEFORE the yanks kill all the rest!

On August 29, 1949 the USSR tested its first nuclear weapon at Semipalatinsk in Kazakhstan (see also Soviet atomic bomb project). Scientists in the United States from the Manhattan Project had warned that in time, the Soviet Union would certainly develop nuclear capabilities of its own. Nevertheless, the effect upon military thinking and planning in the US was dramatic, primarily due to the fact that American military strategists had not anticipated the Soviets would 'catch up' this soon. However, at this time, they had not discovered that the Russians had conducted significant espionage of the project from spies at Los Alamos, the most significant of which was done by the theoretical physicist Klaus Fuchs. The first Soviet bomb was more or less a deliberate copy of the Fat Man device.

With the monopoly over nuclear technology broken, world-wide nuclear proliferation accelerated. The United Kingdom tested its first atomic bomb in 1952, followed by France in 1960 and then the People's Republic of China in 1964. While much smaller than the arsenals of the USA and the USSR, Western Europe's nuclear reserves were nevertheless a significant factor in strategic planning during the Cold War. A top-secret white paper produced for the British Government in 1959, compiled by the Royal Air Force, estimated that British atomic bombers were capable of destroying key cities and military targets in the Soviet Union, with an estimated 16 million deaths in the USSR (half of whom were estimated to be killed on impact and the rest fatally injured) before bomber aircraft from the United States' Strategic Air Command reached their targets.

The level of writing talent is quite frightening, really.

When Cammy confronted Bison, he told her that she was meant to become his next body, after his current physical manifestation was destroyed by his own Psycho Power. Cammy managed to break the twelve Dolls free from Shadoloo's mind control, and they confronted Bison together. He explained to Cammy that she was a clone, and that if he were to die, she would die as well. Cammy fought against his psychic probing and rescued the Dolls from Bison's control with the Psycho Drive. Cammy got the Dolls out the Shadoloo base and then fell unconscious. Vega rescued her before the base was destroyed, not wanting to allow a beautiful human to die. He deposited her on the doorstep of the British paramilitary organization Delta Red.

The Juggernaught rolls on

This article analyses the grammar and phonetics of ebonics in a way that would be completly incomprehensible to anyone who speaks that language. Similar to when a bunch of white men get together and transcribe Coltrane solos, then write "jazz education" essays about what he was "going for" at the time.

Ebonics is not some well-conceived design of a language. It's an accident--the natural evolution (or degeneration)of American English as spoken by African Americans over many years--and shouldn't be presented as anything else. To dissect the grammatical variations of this speach pattern is to miss the point completely. This language is entirely based on NOT understanding the rules of grammer, and on making mistakes and keeping them in the language. No one sat down and designed any of the rules that this article focuses on, and if you discussed this with a native Ebonics speaker, he wouldn't have the first clue what you're talking about.

This article is written about Ebonics, by people who don't speak Ebonics, for people who don't speak Ebonics. Solid.
-Anon

You could say that about every other natural language that exists. In that sense, AAVE is no different than any other language or dialect. Nevertheless, it is not based on not understanding the rules of grammar, since it has its own grammar. Your understanding of it is based on not understanding what grammar even is. AEuSoes1 20:17, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Absolute agreement with AEuSoes1 here. Just because AAVE doesn't have a strong tradition of prescription, doesn't mean it shouldn't be properly described.--Pharos 22:02, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

No, son. It IS based on not understanding the rules of American English grammar. Which accounts for its phonetic similarities to American English, but differences (misuses) in word meanings. Show me the text in which every rule of Ebonics grammar is explained, and I'll show you a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Ted Danson.

African American English: A Linguistic Introduction is a good start. There are many books on the linguistics and grammar of AAVE, including books on narrow topics. This is a general introduction. Rlitwin 19:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

It sounds to me like there are two things you're getting at. First is an Emic/Etic distinction. Most research articles are written from the etic perspective, that is the prespective of the researcher. Second, all language develops by modifying old grammar rules or creating new ones; and almost never is this done intentionally and willfully. AAVE does use a different grammar, which has roots in English (among others). But to say it is simply English misunderstood is not more correct than to say American English is really Latin misunderstood.
For example, I can say "I wrote an agenda for the meeting." However, the word Agenda is plural in Latin (singular Agendum); over time people have made it singular in English. This does not mean that English speakers are incorrect; they have simply modified usages over time. AAVE is no different. --TeaDrinker 19:58, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

The only languages that may have completely explicated grammars are ones that have been constucted. All descriptive grammars of 'naturally occuring' languages are in fact assembled by deriving the rules from examples of the language in use. The idea that Ebonics is somehow a dengenerative form of English because a written grammer doesn't exist belies this fact. However, I do think Ebonics might be something of a special case because of its perhaps unique origins and its widespread use. It seems to shares attributes (to my laymen's mind) with creoles, a class-based dialect, and perhaps a cant( in that it may be used by the minority to exclude the majority). Look to our lawyers to turn us into a system of laws insetad of men.

On February 21 1973 law students went on strike and barricaded themselves inside the buildings of the Law School of the university of Athens in the centre of Athens, demanding the cancelling of the law that imposed forceful drafting of "subversive youths", as 88 of their colleagues had been forcefully drafted. The regime ordered the police inside the Law School. Many students were reportedly subjected to police brutality. The events at the Law School are often cited as the prelude to the Polytechnic uprising.

On November 14, 1973 students at the National Technical University of Athens (also known as "Athens Polytechnic" or Polytechneion) went on strike and started protesting against the military regime (Regime of the Colonels). There was no response, so the students barricaded themselves in and built a radio station (using materials from the laboratories) that repeatedly broadcast across Athens: "Here is Polytechneion! People of Greece, the Polytechneion is the flag bearer of our struggle and your struggle, our common struggle against τhe dictatorship and for democracy!"

Games are serious but life is fun

Distracting your opponent by complaining about other people who might be (but weren't) distracting your opponent. This approach was recommended by Potter, who always insisted that the good gamesman must always give the appearance of being a good sportsman. If an opponent is (say) about to take a shot at billiards, it is bad gamesmanship to fidget and whistle , but good gamesmanship to distract him by requesting silence from spectators.

'old on a minute, luv...

The counterpart to a strike is a lockout, in which an employer refuses to allow employees to work. Two of the three employers involved in the Caravan park grocery workers strike of 2003-2004 locked out their employees in response to a strike against the third member of the employer bargaining group. Lockouts are, with certain exceptions, lawful under United States labor law.

A sympathy strike is a labour strike that is initiated by workers in one industry and supported by workers in a separate but related industry. Sympathy strikes are also called sympathy action, secondary strikes and secondary action.

In the United Kingdom, sympathy strikes were outlawed under the Thatcher government in 1980, as part of that government's policy to tame what it saw as militant unionism. The laws outlawing secondary strikes remain to this day, even though the governing party is now the union-affiliated Labour Party. In 2005, union leaders in the UK have called for the legalisation of secondary strikes in the aftermath of the strike action against the catering company Gate Gourmet but Labour Ministers have stated that they have no intention of repealing the Thatcherite laws.

A secondary boycott is an attempt by labor to convince others to stop doing business with a particular firm because that firm does business with another firm that is the subject of a strike and/or a primary boycott.

This type of behavior is illegal in many countries. In the U.S. it is banned by the interpretation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, by the Taft-Hartley Act, which amends the National Labor Relations Act of 1935, also known as the Wagner Act. In Australia it is banned by sections 45D to 45E of the Trade Practices Act.

Secondary boycotting is frequently confused with secondary striking, which is also a prohibited tactic for those labor unions covered by the Taft-Hartley Act. Some legal definitions for secondary boycotting divide it into two different kinds, secondary consumer boycotts as per the above definition of secondary boycotts, and secondary employee boycotts, also defined as a secondary strike.

We cannot hope to understand them, nor they us.

A Japanese strike on the contrary has the workers maximizing their output. They are nominally working as usual but the surplus can break the planning, especially in just-in-time systems.

Once Whitman began facing return gunfire from the authorities, he used the waterspouts on each side of the tower as turrets, which allowed him to continue shooting while largely protected from the gunfire below, which had grown to include civilians who had brought out their personal firearms to assist police.

While Whitman's final request in his suicide note had been to be cremated, he was not. Whitman and his mother shared a funeral service officiated by Fr. Tom Anglim at his home parish of Sacred Heart in Lake Worth. As a former Marine, Whitman's casket was draped with an American flag for the burial in Section 16 of the Hillcrest Memorial Park in West Palm Beach, Florida.[6]

In 1972, The United States Congress banned the practice of disposing chemical weapons into the ocean. However 32,000 tons of nerve and mustard agents had already been dumped into the ocean waters off of the United States by the U.S. Army. According to a 1998 report created by William Brankowitz, a deputy project manager in the U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency, the Army created at least 26 chemical weapons dumpsites in the ocean off of at least 11 states on both the west and east coasts. Additionally due to poor records, currently they only know the rough whereabouts of half of them.

It is unknown how these dumps of chemical weapons have affected the ocean ecology—it may be responsible for some of the decline in fish populations over the past decades, but no evidence has yet proved a causal relationship between dumping and fish population decline. The steel containers they are contained within face a variable rate of decay and no one is really certain where or how deep they were dumped.

The ancient Roman aphorism, Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi (Gods may do what cattle may not), captures the idea of the way relatively relaxed norms of behavior are applied by the elite to themselves, while harsher behavior standards are applied to the masses.

ne example of by-catch is dolphins caught in tuna nets. As dolphins are mammals and do not have gills they may drown while stuck in nets underwater. This by-catch issue has been one of the reasons of the growing ecolabelling industry, where fish producers mark their packagings with something like "Dolphin Friendly" to reassure buyers. Unfortunately for the dolphins, "dolphin friendly" does not mean that dolphins were not killed in the production of a particular tin of tuna, but that the fleet which caught the tuna did not specifically target a feeding pod of dolphins, but relied on other methods to spot tuna schools.

The word "trawling" has come to be used in a number of non-fishing contexts, usually meaning indiscriminate collection with the intent of picking out the useful bits. For instance, in law enforcement it may refer to collecting large records of telephone calls hoping to find calls made by suspects. The word "trawling" occurs frequently in general literature and is used to mean searching through literature for information more often than it means catching fish.

Leykis has caused considerable controversy over the years by revealing on-air the names of such individuals as the following:

Major media outlets voluntarily withhold names like these due to their adherence to journalism ethics and standards while having no problem releasing names of alleged offenders, a policy Leykis disagrees with since he says he is "not a journalist". Leykis's point is that either both names of an alleged accuser and an alleged offender should be protected or both should be public.

He has an excellent point. And look at all the good he's done!

Vili Fualaau (born June 26, 1983), of Samoan-American descent became famous when at the age of 13 he repeatedly gave simple consent to sexual intercourse with his then-33-year-old teacher Mary Kay Letourneau. The two were arrested, and Letourneau was charged with statutory rape. The sexual encounters resulted in two daughters, prison for Letourneau, and a long-standing court order forbidding them from seeing each other.

In 2002, Fualaau's mother filed a civil suit against the Highline School District and the city of Des Moines, Washington for not protecting him from Letourneau. The suit was dismissed.

On August 6, 2004, Fualaau, who was 21 years old at the time, applied to the court to lift the no-contact order, which was granted. Vili Fualaau and Mary Kay Letourneau were married on May 20, 2005.

In the United States this rape generated predominantly negative publicity, with some notable exceptions, e.g. Robert Reich's comment "where were teachers like she [Mary Letourneau] when I went to school?". Reich was at that time the Secretary of Labor in President Clinton's administration.

Total waste of time.

Kenneth Pinyan (June 22, 1960 - July 2, 2005) was a Seattle, Washington resident who engaged in sexual activity with full-size stallions, of which some were videotaped and distributed informally under the name Mr Hands. His death at the age of 45 from accidental internal injury, in July 2005, received during a sex act being videotaped by a friend of his, was one of the most read stories in The Seattle Times for that year [1], and prompted the passing of a bill in Washington state prohibiting both sex with animals, and the videotaping of the same, some months later.

Your tax dollars at work, or: I'm ready for talk-radio

An eel ladder is type of fish ladder designed to help eels swim past barriers, such as dams and weirs or even natural barriers, to reach upriver feeding grounds. (Many eels are catadromous, living in fresh water but spawning at sea.) The basic design of an eel ladder has the eel swim over the barrier using an eel ascending ramp, which provides the eels a climbing substrate to "push against" while slithering upstream. For some higher barriers, elevator-style systems are also used.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen. Billions of your hard earned dollars are being wasted by the government on eel elevators. It's an outage. When will the eel-friendly liberal media that hates america be brought to accounting? I don't know. How many stories have you heard about eel elevators in the last year? Not one! Not...ONE! What a corrupt media. What a corrupt system. All we can count on are bloggers to expose this giant fraud against the taxpayers.

My next eel related atrocity that you won't hear about in the new york times or that damn hippie bill o'reily:

Eel blood is toxic. The toxic protein it contains is destroyed by cooking. The toxin derived from eel blood serum was used by Charles Robert Richet in his Nobel winning research which discovered anaphylaxis (by injecting it into dogs and observing the effect).

Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars went into killing dogs with toxic eel blood, for no reason except to feed the ego of the bloodthrity rapist, murderer, and liar Charles Robert Richet. And all of this is the fault of the clinton administration and thier unholy alliance with arabs, all of whom are muslims, and all of them are terrorists. Eels are smuggling in illegal immigrants, drugs, and weapons, and the government is doing nothing because it's completely subservient to the powerful eel lobby that's ruining america.

Reasonable Demands All

  1. Immediate new elections to the Soviets. The present Soviets no longer express the wishes of the workers and peasants. The new elections should be by secret ballot, and should be preceded by free electoral propaganda.
  2. Freedom of speech and of the press for workers and peasants, for the Anarchists, and for the Left Socialist parties.
  3. The right of assembly, and freedom for trade union and peasant organisations.
  4. The organisation, at the latest on 10th March 1921, of a Conference of non-Party workers, soldiers and sailors of Petrograd, Kronstadt and the Petrograd District.
  5. The liberation of all political prisoners of the Socialist parties, and of all imprisoned workers and peasants, soldiers and sailors belonging to working class and peasant organisations.
  6. The election of a commission to look into the dossiers of all those detained in prisons and concentration camps.
  7. The abolition of all political sections in the armed forces. No political party should have privileges for the propagation of its ideas, or receive State subsidies to this end. In the place of the political sections various cultural groups should be set up, deriving resources from the State.
  8. The immediate abolition of the militia detachments set up between towns and countryside.
  9. The equalisation of rations for all workers, except those engaged in dangerous or unhealthy jobs.
  10. The abolition of Party combat detachments in all military groups. The abolition of Party guards in factories and enterprises. If guards are required, they should be nominated, taking into account the views of the workers.
  11. The granting to the peasants of freedom of action on their own soil, and of the right to own cattle, provided they look after them themselves and do not employ hired labour.
  12. We request that all military units and officer trainee groups associate themselves with this resolution.
  13. We demand that the Press give proper publicity to this resolution.
  14. We demand the institution of mobile workers' control groups.
  15. We demand that handicraft production be authorised provided it does not utilise wage labour.

In October, 1938, after the Munich Agreement, which ensured British and French approval, allowed Germany the right to take over areas of Czechoslovakia with a significant German minority, the so-called Sudetenland, Poland similarly demanded that Czechoslovakia give up the Cieszyn area, taken from Poland in 1920 and inhabited by a significant Polish minority. Faced with an ultimatum, Czechoslovakia gave up the area (about 1% of its territory), which was taken over by Polish authorities and annexed by Poland on October 2, 1938.

Early drum machines were often referred to as "rhythm machines." In 1930–31, the spectacularly innovative and complex Rhythmicon was realized by Léon Theremin on the commission of composer-theorist Henry Cowell, who wanted an instrument with which to play compositions whose multiple rhythmic patterns, based on the overtone series, were far too difficult to perform on existing keyboard instruments. The invention could produce sixteen different rhythms, each associated with a particular pitch, either individually or in any combination, including en masse, if desired. Received with considerable interest when it was publicly introduced in 1932, the Rhythmicon was soon set aside by Cowell and was virtually forgotten for decades.

Can't get a fair trial in this town. Can't get any trial.

The rebels were fighting in the name of the Emperor against what they saw as a self-serving, overly political government that needed to pay more attention to the troubled domestic economy. Hirohito responded by ordering the army and navy to suppress the revolt. Elements of the armed services interested in the conquest of Asia saw this as an opportunity to use the rebel's actions as an excuse for the military to seize greater power over the government. On the 29th, both services reported that they had captured all the rebels, and either executed them or demanded that they commit ritual suicide.

There was no path...

The 228 Incident (Chinese: 二二八事件; pinyin: èr èr bā shìjiàn; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Jī-jī-pat sū-kiāⁿ) or 228 Massacre was an uprising in the Republic of China (Taiwan) that began on February 28, 1947 and was suppressed by the Kuomintang government, resulting in thirty thousand or sixty thousand civilians killed. The number "228" refers to the date of the incident, February 28.

This event is now commemorated in Taiwan as Peace Memorial Day. Official government policy had repressed the education of the events until recently, for various reasons. Many of the details of the incident are still highly controversial and hotly debated in Taiwan today, as the largely conservative-controlled government often tries to stifle discussion on the topic. Some people point to Communist involvement as a "justification" for the KMT's action.

Taiwan was placed under the administrative control of the Republic of China after 50 years of colonial rule by Japan two years earlier by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA), and tensions between the local Taiwanese and mainlanders from China had increased in the intervening years. The flashpoint came on February 27, 1947 in Taipei when a dispute between a female cigarette vendor and an anti-smuggling officer triggered civil disorder and open rebellion that would last for days. The uprising was shortly put down by the military of the Republic of China.

The options for china were three: The communists, the nationalists, or the warlords. They could choose industrialization, corruption, and brutality;
corruption, incompetence, and brutality; or feudalism, corruption, and brutality.

The only thing stupider than your own customs are the customs of foreigners. This simple truth has spilt much blood.

The Queue Order (Traditional Chinese: 剃髮令; Simplified Chinese: 剃发令; pinyin: Tī Fà Lìng) was a series of laws violently imposed by the Manchu invaders of China in the seventeenth century.

Traditionally, adult Chinese did not cut their hair. According to the Classics of Filial Piety, Confucius said "the body, hair and skin, are inherited from one's parents, do not dare damage them. This is the beginning of filial piety." (身体发肤,受之父母,不敢毁伤,孝至始也。) Therefore both men and women wound their hair into a bundle or into various hairstyles. The Manchu men on the other hand shaved their forehead, leaving a long rattail called the queue.

When the Manchus broke through Shanhai Pass in 1644 (Chongzhen Year 17) they imposed the Queue Order in occupied territories, mandating that Chinese shave their head like the Manchus. This resulted in widespread resistance by the Chinese, and order was publicly revoked.

A year later, after the Manchus had reached South China, Dorgon reimposed the Queue Order, giving the Chinese 10 days to shave their hair into a queue, or face death. Their slogan was "Lose your hair and keep your head, otherwise, keep your hair and lose your head". The Chinese people resisted the order and the Manchu conquerors struck back with deadly force, massacring all who refused to shave their hair. The Three Massacres at Jiading and the Ten-day Massacre at Yangzhou are two of the most famous of such massacres, with death tolls at 50-200 thousand, and 100-800 thousand respectively. The imposition of this order was not uniform; it took up to 10 years for all of China to be brought under compliance.

People just can't handle the truth:

Strong resentment and anger were sometimes directed at the group (then called Bible Students) in the 1910s and 1920s. At the time, this was largely due to the Watch Tower Society's outspoken manner; members carrying placards outside many churches and in the streets proclaiming the imminent destruction of church members, along with both church and government institutions if they did not flee from "false religion" was not an uncommon sight. Typical examples of the Watchtower's attitude are found in the Watch Tower Society's book publication The Finished Mystery (SS-7), 1917 edition: "Also, in the year 1918, when God destroys the churches wholesale and the church members by millions, it shall be that any that escape shall come to the works of Pastor Russell to learn the meaning of the downfall of 'Christianity.'" (Page 485) "The people who are the strength of Christendom shall be cut off in the brief but terribly eventful period beginning in 1918 A.D. A third part are 'burned with fire in the midst of the city.' Fire symbolizes destruction. . . .After 1918 the people supporting churchianity will cease to be its supporters, be destroyed as adherents, by the spiritual pestilence of errors abroad, and by the famine of the Word of God among them." Hospitals are where people go to die.

Medical malpractice claims can help identify areas where primary health care in the United States needs improvement, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Academy refers to a study entitled "Learning from Malpractice Claims about Negligent, Adverse Events in Primary Care in the United States", in suggesting that the medical community can learn from tort claims. In that study, researchers looked at primary care malpractice claims settled between 1985 and 2000 in the United States. The study focused on a subset of 5,921 claims that were clear errors. The researchers found:

  • 68 percent of the errors were in outpatient settings and resulted in more than 1,200 deaths.
  • Negligence was more likely to have severe outcomes when they occurred in hospitals, but the total number of high severity outcomes and death was larger in the outpatient setting.
  • Of the 10 most prevalent medical conditions with error-related claims, no single condition accounted for more than five percent of all negligent claims.
  • Diagnostic error accounted for more than one-third of the claims.[3]

A recent study by Heathgrades found that an average of 195,000 hospital deaths in each of the years 2000, 2001 and 2002 in the U.S. were due to potentially preventable medical errors. Researchers examined 37 million patient records and applied the mortality and economic impact models developed by Dr. Chunliu Zhan and Dr. Marlene R. Miller in a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in October of 2003. The Zhan and Miller study supported the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) 1999 report conclusion, which found that medical errors caused up to 98,000 deaths annually and should be considered a national epidemic. [4]

A 2006 follow-up to the 1999 Institute of Medicine of the National Academies study found that medication errors are among the most common medical mistakes, harming at least 1.5 million people every year. According to the study, 400,000 preventable drug-related injuries occur each year in hospitals, 800,000 in long-term care settings, and roughly 530,000 among Medicare recipients in outpatient clinics. The report stated that these are likely to be conservative estimates. In 2000 alone, the extra medical costs incurred by preventable drug related injuries approximated $887 million -- and the study looked only at injuries sustained by Medicare recipients, a subset of clinic visitors. None of these figures take into account lost wages and productivity or other costs.[5]

We've struck oil in an incredibly boring and completely hidden process! Let's celebrate by collating the neccessary documents in triplicate!

Gushers were an icon of oil exploration and production during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Drilling techniques and equipment employed at that time could not accommodate high-pressure reservoirs, and when the reservoirs were breached, the oil would shoot up the well, forcing out the drill head and creating a gusher. This event was referred to as a "blow out".

It was not until 1924 that the first successful blowout preventer, a valve affixed to the well head to regulate high-pressure oil flow, was brought to market.[2] Blowout preventers soon became standard equipment, and gushers became largely a thing of the past.

Gushers were dangerous and wasteful. They could kill workmen involved in drilling, destroy equipment, and coat the landscape with thousands of barrels of oil. The freely-flowing oil was in constant danger of catching fire.[3]

Every great workmen killing, equipment destroying, landscape coating, awesome looking adventure has been ruined by clinical and souless science.

Many feel the one-child policy is a violation of basic human rights or are concerned with the practices allegedly used to implement this policy. [5] China has been accused of meeting its population requirements through bribery, coercion, forced sterilization, forced abortion, and infanticide, with most reports coming from rural areas.

In at least one case, a government official who claims to have participated in some of these actions testified before a United States House subcommittee regarding her participation in forced sterilizations and abortions. [6] It was also reported as recently as 2001 that in Guangdong a quota of 20,000 forced abortions was set due to reported disregard of the one-child policy. The effort included using portable ultrasound devices to locate abortion candidates. It is reported that women as far along as 8.5 months pregnant are forced to abort by injection of saline solution into the womb, killing the baby and causing the mother great mental and physical pain. China's Generation Y (Gen Y) is a generation of approximately 240 million people born between 1980 and 1990. Growing up in modern China, China’s Gen Y has been characterized by its optimism for the future, newfound excitement for consumerism and entrepreneurship and acceptance of its historic role in transforming modern China into an economic superpower. Gen Y teens are also distinguished by their increased access to the Internet, high-tech MP3 players, computers and mobile phones. The book China’s Generation Y (Michael Stanat – 2005) explores the adolescent generation in urban Chinese cities. Generation Y teens in China often experience a palpable generation gap between them and their elders. Growing up under Mao, Gen Y’s parents experienced famine and political instability. Many lack an education because of the policies set forth under the Cultural Revolution. On the other hand, China’s Generation Y increasingly lives in an environment of tremendous economic growth and social change, high technology, and rigorous education requirements. A clash between tradition and modern influences is noticeable in purchasing habits, career pursuits and daily interaction between child and elders. Furthermore, young adults have been indirectly affected by forced government shutdowns of thousands of Internet cafes each year that prevent the excessive use of the Internet. Young people are also affected by China’s large socioeconomic divide between urban and rural residents and societal problems resulting from modernization. The conflict between Gen Y teenagers and China’s government has also contributed to the idea in the West holding that the communist government will collapse during their lifetimes.

You see, they had the strength, the will, the courage, and the intelligence to pay an incredible price. We paid the price over hundreds of years, and the memory of it has vanished, so we condemn others who are willing to do anything to succeed as a society. They have achieved a miracle. They have compressed 400 years of suffering into two generations. We should not begrudge them their cruel miracles, as they should not begrudge us the cruelties our good fortune led us to commit upon others.

They're so fucking adorable.

Owen and Mzee are a hippopotamus and a tortoise, respectively, that appear to have formed a unique bond of friendship.

A baby hippopotamus, Owen, was orphaned in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya near Malindi during the Asian Tsunami on December 26, 2004. The baby hippo, weighing 600 pounds, was rescued during a day long effort by nearly 1,000 villagers using shark nets. Owen's namesake is a Frenchman named Owen Saubion, who finally tackled the hippo during the rescue.

Owen was taken to Haller Park, a restored limestone quarry near Mombasa owned by Lafarge Eco Systems' East African firm, Bamburi Cement. He was released into a large wooded penned-in area that included a pond and a co-inhabitant -- a 700-pound, 130-year-old Aldabran tortoise named Mzee (Swahili for "wise old man").

Owen immediately bonded to Mzee, who initially resisted Owen's overtures. Over time, the old tortoise came to accept the young hippo, who began to mimic his adoptive "parent." Gradually, Mzee taught Owen, who was a nursing calf, what to eat and where to sleep.

In the first year, the two have become inseparable companions who eat, sleep, swim, and play together. They have surprised scientists with the strength of what appears to be a genuine bond, as well as a unique vocal communication that has developed between them.

How is it that simple case of confused imprinting captivates us so? It is a human habit to see everything as human. There is nothing more grotesque and human-centric than the "animal rights" advocates who look at animals and see humans. There is a chasm between them and us that will likely never be bridged.

We make them human by using words like "friends". Then again, perhaps Owen and Mzee are, and I'm unable to see past the tip of my own species nose.

And so, the mystery of my high wages deepens...

A survey conducted by London Guildhall University of 11,000 people showed that (subjectively) good-looking people earn more. Less attractive people earned, on average, 13% less than more attractive people, while the penalty for overweight was around 5%.

So you see, cosmetic surgery is not vanity. It is in fact a canny and intelligent investment. Really. Truly. Honestly. When I save up enough money, I'm going to become completely remade. New skin, new face, new body. Then, and only then will I enter politics, armed with the prerequisite tools to make my image, if not my ideas, attractive.

That's what's up

Ready for Primetime

The four principal characters are incredibly wealthy men, who are libertine, incredibly ruthless, and "...lawless and without religion, whom crime amused, and whose only interest lay in his passions...and had nothing to obey but the imperious decrees of his perfidious lusts." It is no coincidence that they are authority figures in terms of their occupations. Sade despised religion and authority and in many of his works he enjoyed mocking them by portraying priests, bishops, judges and the like as sexual perverts and criminals. They are:

* The Duc de Blangis - aged fifty, an aristocrat who acquired his wealth by poisoning his mother for the purposes of inheritance, prescribing the same fate to his sister when she found out about his plot. Blangis is described as being tall, strongly built and highly sexually potent, although it is emphasised that he is a complete coward, and proud of it too.

* The Bishop - Blangis' brother. He is forty-five, a scrawny and weak man, "with a nasty mouth." He is passionate of anal sex and, even when having sex with women and girls, he refuses to have vaginal intercourse with them.

* The Président de Curval - aged sixty, a tall and lank man, "frightfully dirty about his body and attaching voluptuousness thereto." He is a judge and used to enjoy handing out death sentences to defendants he knew to be innocent.

* Durcet - aged fifty-three, a banker described as short, pale and effeminate.

Their accomplices are:

* Four prostitutes, middle-aged women who will relate anecdotes of their depraved careers to inspire the four principal characters into similar acts of depravity.

* Eight studs (or 'fuckers') who are chosen solely on the basis of how big their penises are.

The victims who will eventually be sacrificed are:

* The daughters of the four principal characters, whom they have been sexually abusing for years.

* Eight boys and eight girls aged from twelve to fifteen. All have been kidnapped and chosen because of their beauty. They are also all virgins, and the four libertines plan on deflowering them over the course of events.

* Four elderly women, chosen for their ugliness to stand in contrast to the children

There are also several cooks and female servants, those in the latter category later being dragged into the proceedings.

When all is falling, flee to singapore or norway. There is room and wealth in both.

Singapore has reclaimed land with earth obtained from its own hills, the seabed and neighbouring countries. As a result, Singapore's land area grew from 581.5 square kilometres (224.5 sq mi) in the 1960s to 697.2 square kilometres (269.1 sq mi) today, and may grow by another 100 square kilometres (38.6 sq mi) by 2030.[18] About 23% of Singapore's land area consists of forest and nature reserves.

In 1995 the Norwegian state started to put away the annual surplus in a fund, now called Government Petroleum Fund. The fund is invested in developed financial markets outside Norway. The fiscal strategy is to spend the "normal interest" of the fund each year, set to 4 per cent. By January 2006, the Fund was at USD 200 billion, representing 70 per cent of GDP in Norway.

Brilliant.

Military Defence

The most important pillar of Total Defence, Military Defence involves the raising and training of a military force which can serve as an effective deterrent. The bulk of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) are composed of male citizens conscripted (without the option of conscientious objection) into military service. The national service in Singapore was introduced in 1967 to draft all young males for military training and a reserve force was built.

The SAF has also enhanced its capabilities to deal with non-conventional threats such as terrorist bombings, hijackings, and chemical, biological and radiological attacks. The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosive Defence Group was formed in 2003 to provide an immediate response in the event of chemical-biological incidents.
[edit]

Civil Defence

Civil Defence as an aspect of Total Defence stresses the protection of civilians in the event of a disaster or threat, as well as the involvement of civilians in helping out in emergencies. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) recruits and trains civil defence volunteers in first aid, rescue and evacuation procedures, and shelter management. The SCDF also conducts talks and exercises to familiarise the public with basic first aid, air raid sirens, the location of the nearest bomb shelters, rationing and emergency arrangements like relief supply of critical items such as blood, water and food.
[edit]

Economic Defence

Total Defence asserts the need to strengthen and adapt the economy of Singapore to respond well to and survive any threats. This involves implementing a robust economic system, building up healthy National Reserves and safeguarding financial institutions so that these can continue to function in times of crisis, as well as keeping the economy running smoothly even if the bulk of the workforce is mobilised as part of Military Defence. It also involves citizens continually retraining themselves to stay employable.
[edit]

Social Defence

The need to maintain social cohesion and maintaining racial and religious harmony in the society and culture of Singapore in the event of a threat is part of the Total Defence plan. Singapore's housing and education policies are designed to integrate different ethnic communities in Singapore with each other in Singapore's schools, housing estates and the workplace with, for example, racial quotas for public housing.

21 July has also been decreed to be Racial Harmony day to stress to Singaporeans the importance of Social Defence.
[edit]

Psychological Defence

The Psychological Defence of Total Defence rests upon the people's pride, patriotism and loyalty to the country, and their commitment to it and its defence in time of crisis.

Interesting. For them, a citizen without the society would be unthinkable. They have the opinion that no one is from from history and of the fate of nations. Why we have nothing like social defense is quite the mystery, unless, of course, chaos and insecurity is what those in charge are working for. I demand a positive fascism for the defense of the nation. I also demand free speech and free press, for the defense of the nation. A society with no critics is not a perfect one, but one with looming problems that may never be corrected.

Memo: Heading: Less money on magic weather, more on fun gameplay.

Shenmue (シェンムー) (2000) is a Modern Action Adventure/RPG/FREE for the Sega Dreamcast, produced and directed by Yu Suzuki of Sega-AM2. Suzuki coined a new genre title, FREE (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment), for the game, based on its unparalleled interactivity and freedom, as well as the innovative real-time and weather systems. Shenmue covers the first chapter of an epic story which continues into Shenmue II and has yet to see completion.

The exact costs of Shenmue are the subject of much speculation. However, it is generally considered that the figure appearing in the Guinness World Records - USD$20,000,000 - is the most accurate. [1] Shenmue was in active development for approximately five years - between 1994 and 1999 - but creator Yu Suzuki has commented on several occasions that he had initial plans for the game several years prior to this.

Magic Weather System

Shenmue incorporates an entirely original system to produce the game's in-universe weather conditions. Named the Magic Weather System by Yu Suzuki, it is one of the most important elements responsible for creating the game's realistic universe. For every day that the player progresses through, weather conditions are generated. Conditions vary from rain, to snow, to overcast skies to sunny and several other variations. Furthermore, weather can change throughout the day - for example, a rainy morning followed by an overcast afternoon and evening. No two players will ever experience the same weather conditions, since the game generates random weather every time the game is played (Although the conditions generated are reflective of the season in which they take place). In addition, records of real life weather conditions of the Yokosuka area during 1986/1987 (the time period in which the game is set) were implemented into the game, giving player's the option to experience these weather conditions in addition to those which are randomly generated.

...and so ended the epic debate of which was more important, gameplay or randomly generated weather.

Uncanny Valley Ranch Dressing

The Uncanny Valley is a principle of robotics concerning the emotional response of humans to robots and other non-human entities. It was theorized by Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori in 1970. The principle states that as a robot is made more humanlike in its appearance and motion, the emotional response from a human being to the robot will become increasingly positive and empathic, until a point is reached beyond which the response quickly becomes strongly repulsive. However, as the appearance and motion continue to become less distinguishable from a human being's, the emotional response becomes positive once more and approaches human-human empathy levels.

This gap of repulsive response aroused by a robot with appearance and motion between a "barely-human" and "fully human" entity is called the Uncanny Valley. The name harkens to the notion that a robot which is "almost human" will seem overly "strange" to a human being and thus will fail to evoke the requisite empathetic response required for productive human-robot interaction.

The phenomenon can be explained by the notion that if an entity is sufficiently non-humanlike, then the humanlike characteristics will tend to stand out and be noticed easily, generating empathy. On the other hand, if the entity is "almost human", then the non-human characteristics will be the ones that stand out, leading to a feeling of "strangeness" in the human viewer.

Romance is soooo not dead

Who says the woman can't have an orgasm during "mammary intercourse" or whatever you choose to call it? It's more than possible for a woman to climax as a result of stimulation of the breast and nipples.

Perhaps reword "the woman cannot achieve orgasm" to "the woman does not usually achieve orgasm"? -- 24.1.63.132 02:13, 9 Jul 2005

I've changed the note accordingly. --Ashmodai 01:07, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
The woman does not "usually" achieve orgasm no matter what type of intercourse is taking place. --Smooth Henry 20:33, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

wrong. sorry you can't please your lovers, but you're wrong. - unsigned

Actually, I'm fairly certain he's right. Quick searches of the net, at least, back him up. There's a lot out there on how women should not feel like its their fault if they don't achieve orgasm, as for women on the whole, it's actually quite common not to.--Hausman 19:19, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Mammary intercourse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(Redirected from Tit wank)

Mammary intercourse is a form of so-called "outercourse" (sex with a partner but without penetration). In this sex act, the man's penis is placed on the intermammary sulcus, squeezed between the woman's breasts and stimulated with an up and down sliding motion, usually with the aid of a sexual lubricant. As long as the semen is cleaned using soap and hot water, it is a form of safer sex with a low risk of leading to pregnancy.
